IBIS in Ecuador
Our program in Ecuador works towards the development of a new democracy as promoted by the indigenous movement.
IBIS is accompanying and supporting the indigenous movement as a political actor in the construction of a new plurinational and intercultural democracy.
Ecuadorian democracy, in order to truly be participative, must recognize cultural diversity and support the implementation of Collective Rights.
We thereby give importance to the process of reconstruction and/or reconstitution of the indigenous people and nations as legal figures for the exercise of Collective Rights.
The main partners of IBIS in Ecuador are organizations that represent indigenous peoples and nations in both the highlands and lowlands.
The organizational development indigenous people is IBIS' principal intervention strategy. Through organizational capacity, the indigenous movement will be able to consolidate its representation as well as its political and organizational action at a local and national level.
