Thematic programmes

IBIS works within two overall strategies, a Governance strategy and a Education for Change strategy. These two strategies constitutes the main pillar in IBIS programmatic work. The strategies is implemented through thematic programmes specifically drawing on these strategies and through appliance of the methods outlined in the thematic programmes and projects.

Overall strategies

Education
Within this strategy IBIS work to empower poor and marginalized adults and children and their organizations to promote, claim and achieve their individual and collective rights to relevant quality education.

Governance
Within this strategy IBIS work to empower poor people to represent themselves.

What is a thematic programme?
A thematic program represents a thematic differentiation of social reality. The theme of the program derives from IBIS' rights-based approach to development in combination with the countries regional and country strategy and issues identified in the context analysis. That is the analysis of stakeholders, governing systems, power-relations and forums for negotiation, that are relevant to the theme in question. This analysis clarifies the reality of the program including primary stakeholders, how the development issue appears, and the opportunities and threats the program and its partners are facing. In other words, the theme is the lens that allows us to perceive and analyse certain development issues. At present, thematic programs is being developed in all parts of the IBIS’ system.

Mutual ownership within the programmes
A thematic program is shared by IBIS and partners. The method used is IBIS’, and as such the program will in general remain IBIS' in the early stages. But it is important build a mutual ownership to the program to ensure contextual port, relevance and long term sustainability of its outcome and impact. Partners should participate in program development from the beginning of the design process. To read more about IBIS partnership approach click here
