HIV/AIDS concerns are mainstreamed into IBIS’ programmes. The objective is to ensure that the perspective of women and HIV/AIDS infected and affected people are included in advocacy activities and information campaigns.
Main target groups
- Local civil society organizations or community based organizations, including indigenous organizations
- Teachers, pupils/students and school boards
- People Living With HIV/AIDS
- Orphans and Vulnerable Children
There are great variances between the regions regarding the depth and width of activities, due to the different scale and impact of the epidemic.
Latin America Activities are limited and mainly focused on prevention, baseline studies, and some advocacy.
Africa Activities also include for example support for ‘People Living With HIV/AIDS’ and ‘Orphans and Vulnerable Children’s’, comprehensive advocacy for access to education and social security, and comprehensive awareness raising campaigns targeting several groups.
Common for all is a strong focus to empower civil society and communities as primary vehicles in the struggle against HIV/AIDS. More and more programmes also combine HIV/AIDS intervention with IBIS’ expertise within education.
